Submitting a HUD Complaint
When submitting a complaint, you must include:
- Name and address
- Name and address of the person your complaint is against known as the respondent
- The address of the housing
- A description of the violation (our legal team can help here)
- The date of the violation
Our team will send this letter to the regional office nearest to you. Once HUD receives the complaint, they will notify both you and the violator of the complaint and allow them to answer. They will investigate the complaint and determine whether there is reasonable cause to believe that the Fair Housing Act was violated. This will occur within 100 days of your complaint. They will try to reach an agreement with the respondent and if one develops, an agreement is signed and no further action is taken.
If they can’t come to an agreement or believe the agreement was breached, they will recommend that the Attorney General file suit against the respondent.
